Fueling Innovation to Support Fire-Resilient Landscapes
Each year, Wildfire Community Preparedness Day serves as a call to action. It is a reminder that protecting landscapes, livelihoods and communities requires more than reaction — it demands foresight, partnership and innovation.
While this awareness day is recognized in the United States (U.S.), the risk of wildfires and bushfires is a global challenge that threatens environments, economies and livelihoods around the world. At Envu, we believe in being a force with nature and working alongside nature to create lasting solutions. Through 360° innovation, we are expanding our impact by helping customers balance the needs of society with those of our environments. Whether preventing catastrophic wildfires or restoring resilient ecosystems, we’re committed to driving our industries and our planet forward.
From Awareness to Action
In the U.S., Envu spearheads the Share the Spark Project — a national initiative to raise awareness about wildfire prevention grants and guide stakeholders through the complex process of turning funding into action.
Despite significant funding availability at the federal, state and local levels, many landowners and community leaders are unaware of these opportunities or unsure how to access them. Share the Spark bridges that gap by connecting users with granting agencies, offering application guidance and providing timely updates through a wildfire preparedness newsletter.
At Envu, we know that preparing for fire risks isn’t just about fighting flames — it’s about reshaping landscapes to be more resilient in the first place. It’s about protecting environments before a crisis strikes.
Innovation on the Ground: Rejuvra® Herbicide and RangeView® Digital Platform
One of the most effective wildfire prevention strategies is reducing fine fuels, and invasive annual grasses like cheatgrass and ventenata are among the most dangerous.
Rejuvra® herbicide, developed by Envu, offers a breakthrough: up to four years of preemergence control with a single application. By targeting invasive grasses before they sprout, Rejuvra herbicide disrupts the cycle of germination and seed production, helping native, fire-resistant plants reclaim the land.
This is innovation that not only protects communities but also restores natural ecosystems, ensuring rangelands remain healthy, biodiverse and productive for future generations.
Combined with the RangeView® digital platform, which uses satellite imagery for monitoring and planning, Envu gives land managers the tools to proactively manage landscapes, backed by our Long Haul Guarantee, for four years of control and peace of mind.
Protecting Land, Storing Carbon and Preserving Climate
Preventing fires also protects another critical resource: soil carbon. Envu recently collaborated with the United States Geological Survey (USGS) on a research study published in Communications Earth & Environment, which revealed that wildfires and invasive grasses significantly deplete soil carbon by as much as 49% in affected ecosystems.
The study found that every acre converted from native shrublands to invasive grasslands could release up to 75 metric tons of CO₂ equivalent — a stark reminder of what’s at stake. In a world where 897,000 acres (363,003 hectares) of sagebrush steppe are lost to exotic annual grasses each year, the need for preventative measures has never been more urgent.
Through proactive land management and native habitat restoration, we can reduce fire risk and preserve essential carbon sinks, offering a powerful climate mitigation strategy alongside wildfire resilience.
Global Solutions for Local Challenges
In Australia, where bushfires threaten vital infrastructure and agricultural operations, Envu is helping customers apply similar innovations in ways that reflect their unique landscapes.
Rather than focusing solely on broad landscape management, Envu solutions — including Esplanade® herbicides — are used strategically for asset protection. Landowners and asset managers are leveraging vegetation management around machinery, hay sheds, silos and renewable energy sites like wind turbines and solar farms.
Esplanade herbicides also play a role in maintaining clear, fire-resistant roadside corridors, supporting safe travel routes and effective emergency response during bushfire events.
While the specific pressures — from invasive grasses to fire-prone vegetation — vary across regions, the approach remains the same: proactive, preventive innovation that safeguards people, property and nature.
