Alex Bernhardt is Chief Transformation Officer of Envu, the first global innovation company of its size dedicated entirely to environmental science. With nearly two decades of business experience, he has built his career enabling organizations to develop both strategies and transformative capabilities for value creation and growth.
Born in the United States, Alex studied extensively in the fields of economics and biotechnology, holding a PhD and a MPhil from Cambridge University, as well as a BSc and BAS from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School and its School of Engineering and Applied Science respectively. His career began with the Boston Consulting Group, where he spent nearly eight years advising clients in a variety of industries and topics ranging from strategy development to building commercial capabilities to implementing M&A. He then moved to private equity, where he worked as Senior Vice President of Strategy & Commercial Excellence for the then Bain Capital-owned Consolidated Container Company (CCC) leading Strategy, Innovation & Design, and multiple Commercial and Service capabilities. Following that successful turnaround experience, he left to run a boutique consultancy specializing in transformational efforts for privately held, middle-market companies.
Alex joined Envu to serve as CTO shortly after Cinven closed its acquisition of the business. In this role, he has worked with the leadership team to develop and execute a portfolio of transformation initiatives to create sustainable financial value and build best-in-class capabilities and culture. During his tenure, Envu has delivered accelerated growth, improved margins, and enhanced organizational effectiveness.
As CTO, Alex is recognized for his ability to see the big picture from a systemic perspective while translating insights into practical, value-driving actions. He is a big believer in the Envu cultural trait of Entrepreneurial Mindset, advocating for a culture of both enablement and accountability.
